STRATEGIC LOCATION

Latvia is a fast developing country located on the south-east coast of the Baltic Sea between the other Baltic States of Lithuania and Estonia. Within Latvia’s capital city lies the Freeport of Riga – the country’s main port – which is ideally located for the development of logistics chains to Russia and neighbouring countries. BCT’s strategic geographical location makes it well positioned to serve as a gateway to meet container traffic demand to and from the main industrial centres of the Russian hinterland and CIS states.

Latvia is not only located at the centre of the Baltic States in geographical terms, but also represents the financial hub of the Baltic States. Latvia’s favourable geopolitical environment provides excellent business opportunities for reaching the four major growth markets bordering Latvia – Russia, Estonia, Lithuania and Belarus. Since 1998, and again following Latvia’s accession into the European Union in 2004, Latvia’s trade with western European countries has increased although Russia and the CIS states remain its most important markets.
